The Mahindra Thar Roxx has created quite a buzz among new car buyers and enthusiasts both before and after its launch. Among all the premium features, Mahindra has equipped it with level -2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), which is a first for the ‘Thar’ nameplate. This is the first time any mass-market off-roader is being provided with this premium safety technology. Recently I drove the SUV and had the opportunity to experience its ADAS technology in the real world. Adaptive cruise control works best on wide, open roads with less traffic. On regular highways, its reactions can feel jerky, and the system often makes the car brake (even in situations where you would just lift off the throttle and coast ), which is annoying. This can also be uncomfortable for cars following you as your brake lights constantly light up. Auto emergency braking – In addition to its main task of braking in emergencies, it will also intervene for short braking when it deems necessary. This can catch you off guard while overtaking between trucks on highways where the gaps for overtaking are not very large. In addition to ADAS, the Mahindra Thar Roxx comes with six airbags (as standard), a 360-degree camera, and front and rear parking sensors. It also features rain-sensing wipers, a tire pressure monitoring system, and child seat mounts. The Mahindra Thar Roxx is priced between Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 20.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The Mahindra SUV competes with the Force Gurkha 5-door and serves as a larger alternative to the Maruti Jinny. Its pricing also places it in competition with compact SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta.
